The Promise

When I was shrouded in darkness
Drowning in a sea of my tears
Never have I felt so lonely
Searching for someone’s company
And that was when I met a man,
The sole reason my life began

Whenever I walk in the street
Always do I receive a treat
It appears that none walk with me
But that was not what came to be
Every time I glanced to my left
Footsteps, beside me, on pavement

From the rocks, I looked at the ocean
While never feeling so broken
Ready to jump and face the waves
Dragging me into the abyss
As I jumped, someone grabbed my arm
Bringing me home, far from the storm

Pressing down on the countertop,
Staring down, near ready to drop
Raising my head to the mirror,
Still hoping things would get clearer
At first, all the mist blurred the sight,
Then seeing two men, all was right

Often is my young mind cluttered
Beyond my limits, it is filled
My fears and insecurities,
Strike me like the waves of the seas,
But help comes in a humble form,
Him with the calm after the storm

My life can now again proceed,
Upon saying my life’s very creed,
Upon swearing a scared oath,
The road towards personal growth
Ready to suffer and perish,
For one who did so as a wish
